  • The Need

    Katy Reisterer

When we learned about Katy Reisterer's connection to the legendary 1987 “Machine Gun Kelly” poster, we knew we had an opportunity to honor a classic Buffalo moment while rallying around someone who truly embodies Buffalo strength.

In February 2026, Katy was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a rare blood cancer. She underwent a bone marrow transplant in May and is now in the middle of a long and difficult recovery. Twice each week, she travels two hours each way for hospital appointments, blood work, and transfusions as her new immune and blood systems continue to rebuild.

Katy is a Buffalo native, lifelong Bills fan, and devoted mother of two boys. She recently purchased her family’s home in the Southtowns, preserving those roots for the next generation. Through every challenge, she has leaned on her faith, her family, and the resilience that defines Buffalo.

Her connection to this moment in Bills history makes this campaign especially meaningful. Nearly 40 years ago, Katy and her sister attended the original downtown Buffalo photo shoot of Jim Kelly, and the antique car featured in that iconic poster belonged to their grandfather.

We’re proud to share Katy’s story and to rally our community around her and her family as she continues this fight.

Please consider a purchase or donation to Katy's online fundraiser.
