  • The Need

    Charlie Roessler

    Charlie is an 11-year-old boy full of energy and heart, originally from Buffalo, NY, now living in Venice, Florida. He’s a sixth grader at Island Village Montessori School and loves BBQ chips, video games, and cheering on his favorite team, the Buffalo Bills. Like so many kids his age, Charlie has big dreams and an excitement for the future.

    In December 2024, what began as simple arm pain led to a devastating diagnosis: Charlie has osteosarcoma, a form of cancer that caused a 7-inch tumor in his arm. While other families were preparing for the holidays, Charlie and his mom spent Christmas Eve meeting with an oncologist, beginning a life-altering journey.

    Charlie is now unable to attend school and faces a long, challenging road ahead. His treatment plan includes 12 weeks of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, followed by major surgery to remove the tumor and part of the affected bone. After surgery, he will undergo additional rounds of chemotherapy and extensive physical therapy. The medical care requires frequent hospital stays far from home, creating significant financial and emotional strain as Charlie and his family focus on his fight and recovery.
