  • The Need

    Read to Succeed Buffalo

Read to Succeed Buffalo has been focused on improving the quality and intentionality of literacy instruction in the early grades since 2007. RTSB believes that with exposure to high-quality, intentional instruction and literacy-rich environments from birth through third grade, all children—regardless of economic or social challenges—can reach their highest potential.

In 2016, RTSB was one of five communities selected to receive federal funding to implement Experience Corps, a small-group volunteer tutoring program. An evidence-based practice of the AARP Foundation, Experience Corps uses trained volunteers age 50 and older to teach literacy and basic reading skills to students who are struggling academically, from Pre-K through third grade. Today, RTSB supports Experience Corps volunteers in 12 Buffalo schools and two schools in Niagara Falls.

Today, RTSB's literacy programs serve nearly 1,300 economically disadvantaged children, ranging in age from six weeks to eight years old. RTSB also promotes positive, brain-building interactions between caregivers and children through Vroom, a program of the Bezos Family Foundation designed to support early learning through everyday interactions.

Stony Brook Legendary Lights, Brazen Brewing, and 26 Shirts are proud to support Read to Succeed Buffalo and its work to help children build strong literacy skills and reach their full potential.

  • The Sponsor

    Stony Brook Legendary Lights

Stony Brook Legendary Lights (formally known as Stony Brook Shines for Others), is a neighborhood organization that is devoted to partnering with, and donating to, local to Western New York (WNY), child-centric charities.

Our neighborhood, the Stony Brook/Quail Run development, located in Lancaster, NY, is made up of over 300 homes, spread out across eight streets. We’ve become known over the years for our neighborhood community lights display. Each winter, our neighbors decorate their homes with festive decorations and holiday lights that turn on Thanksgiving night and shine nightly through January 1. Each evening, visitors drive or walk through the neighborhood to view the lights and have the option to donate, if they wish to, online or at any of the donation drop boxes set up throughout the neighborhood. All donations collected from neighbors, local businesses, and visitors, are presented at the end of the season to a predetermined, local to WNY, child-centric charity.

Stony Brook Legendary Lights is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization.
