The Need
As a 40 year old current survivor of a heart transplant, Melanie has always lived and done everything she wanted to do, within her means. She found her passion for a career as a Special Education teacher, married the most amazing man and has traveled the world over. She got sick in her 20’s, having two strokes. After being dismissed multiple times, she persisted with the medical field (always advocate for yourself!!) and was finally diagnosed with an enlarged heart at 33. She went into heart failure at 35. I was put on the transplant list at 40 and two months later received a heart.
She has been struggling with medical bills, housing, food, gas, and time missing from work. She is ever grateful for her heart donor and the medical team that gave her a chance to continue her life with her family, friends and amazing students!
