Baby Christian suffered a severe and rare brain injury at birth due to lack of blood flow and oxygen to his brain. On Christian’s 7th day of life, the NICU team, along with hematology, neurology, and neurosurgery specialists, said that Christian would not breathe on his own, eat on his own, walk, or attend a regular daycare. They advised that he would need around-the-clock care and suggested Christian’s parents consider continuing support. They had nothing to consider. They would never give up on their son. 

In addition to his severe brain injury, Christian has experienced seizures, a blood clot on his brain, and a brain bleed. He has also been diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), epilepsy, microcephaly, laryngomalacia, stridor, and GERD. He has undergone surgery on his tethered spinal cord at only 7 months old.

This brain injury has resulted in significant global developmental delays, requiring a lifetime of intensive therapy.

These therapies are essential and effective in helping the brain remap after injury, a process known as neuroplasticity. To provide Christian with the best possible care, he needs to travel for specialized therapy, both out of state and internationally.
