    The Need

Kaitlin Floyd had been a type 1 diabetic for 23 years before she got a perfect pancreas transplant in April 2016. She put herself through nursing school and was in charge nurse of the transplant unit at ECMC for almost 10 years. After she got the transplant she was constantly sick, always needing surgery on her abdomen for complications. Hernias, infections, constantly sick from medications but her glucose was perfect so she was extremely thankful. Despite this, she still went to work, Bills games, and even got married at a tailgate.

In late fall of 2021 she found a new, rapidly growing mole on her back. Dermatologist said melanoma and to get to Roswell right away. Stage 3C melanoma. She had back surgery to remove the cancer. She had gotten melanoma from my transplant medications so she needed to taper off of them. This led to painful pancreatitis and she needed to get the transplant out. She has had multiple abscesses, infections and now kidney stones requiring another operation. The antibiotics have left her very ill and weak. It’s too late for immunotherapy so she is currently seeking a second opinion for the next step while still being unable to work. The pain, nausea and constant worrying about job, bills and future has been debilitating for her.

Please consider a shirt purchase, or donation to her online fundraiser.
