    The Need

    In February at just 8 months old, Wyatt woke up one morning with his head tilted that the family doctor said may be a stiff neck. Over the next few weeks, Wyatt started vomiting and seemed to be getting worse. After seeing his pediatrician, an allergist, and two different Doctors during ER visits, no treatments were working. His family decided to take him to the local children’s hospital ER. After hearing his struggles over the past month and looking at Wyatt’s charts, the ER doctor recommended a CT scan of his head. The doctors found a large mass on Wyatt’s brain in the scan.

    Wyatt would quickly have brain surgery to remove the tumor. Testing of the tumor showed it to be cancerous stage 3 Supratentorial Ependymoma. Wyatt would need one more 8+ hour surgery to have another part of the tumor removed from his brain stem. A few weeks later he started proton therapy radiation, as chemotherapy is not currently proven effective with this type of cancer.
