The Need
Matthew Arthur was diagnosed with Branchio-Oculo-Facial Syndrome (BOFS) at birth. BOFS is generally characterized by multiple congenital anomalies of the head and neck. At only 4 months old, Matthew has already spent 39 days in the hospital with many of those days being in NICU/PICU. Matthew has had one surgery with another planned for later in the year. He will need to receive physical, occupational, speech and vision therapies, and has had countless visits with his multi-specialty team of doctors.
BOFS is an extremely rare condition, with fewer than 100 documented cases world-wide as of 2018. Due to how incredibly rare this condition is, there are still many unknowns about what medical care Matthew will require going in the future. Through it all Matthew is a happy baby who loves snuggling with Mom and Dad and playing with his big brother and sister.
