    The Need

The Joseph M. Overfield Memorial Baseball, Softball, Soccer and Mentoring Program is managed by the Willie Hutch Jones Education & Sports Program and Omega Mentoring and based at the Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Sports Pavilion—the former War Memorial Stadium—and named for the former historian of the Buffalo Bisons baseball club who authored the book, The 100 Seasons of Buffalo Baseball in 1985 and threw out a first pitch before a Bisons game that year at the old stadium to commemorate the book’s release. His son, James H. Overfield, is the editor of a revision and update of his dad’s book, The Seasons of Buffalo Baseball 1857-2020. A portion of the book’s sales and proceeds from the sale of these shirts will go to towards this Baseball, Softball, Soccer and Mentoring Program. The Willie Hutch Jones program was founded 37 years ago by Buffalo native and former NBA and European Professional Basketball League player Willie Hutch Jones. They provide free instruction in fundamental life and social skills development, sports skills development as well as academic support. For more information, visit  http://whjsc.org. It will also be managed by The Omega Mentoring Program, founded by Cedric Holloway, a retired Buffalo Police Detective Sargent and the son of Johnnie B. Wiley. Omega Mentoring is committed to inspiring and motivating at-risk youth towards college through one-on-one mentoring. It provides these youth leadership formulated to deal with the myriad of problems with an emphasis on self-love, self-knowledge, self-development, and spiritual development.
