    The Need

Madison Leigh had always been the happiest baby. She smiled when she ate, smiled when she bounced around, smiled when her diaper was changed, she would even smile when a bright light was turned on in the morning.  When Maddie was about 9 months old all the smiles ceased, she was constantly fatigued and couldn’t hold any food down.  Eventually a CT scan revealed a 4 cm tumor between her brainstem and cerebellum.  It was a waking nightmare for her family.  Fortunately, Maddie’s emergency surgery went well and the entire tumor was removed.  Maddie was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive but curable brain cancer.  She is now in the middle of a chemo protocol at Duke University Hospital.  Her treatment over the last 4 months has seen many ups and downs; emergency room visits, viral and bacterial infections, and additional surgeries

Despite all of these misfortunes, Maddie’s smile has shown through.  It has become commonplace for nurses to come to visit just to catch a Maddie smile on their shift.  Madison still has plenty of treatment to finish off any remaining cancer and then physical therapy to help her catch up on her missed milestones.  Maddie’s incredible resilience has been an inspiration to anyone that knows her.

Please consider a shirt purchase or donation to Madison's online fundraiser.
