Luke was born with a rare genetic disease effecting the metabolic system known as Maple Syrup Urine Disease, or MSUD. He was hospitalized at less than one week old after experiencing multiple seizures leading to brain damage, which ultimately confirmed the diagnosis. 

MSUD can be treated with a restricted low protein diet, medical formula for life, and frequent blood draws, but the risk for brain damage remains with any illness or stress on the body. Luke’s family has opted for an alternative treatment, a liver transplant. 

Luke is currently awaiting the call for his new liver which will allow him to live a more free life without fear of brain damage around every corner. Hopefully then he will be able to attend a football game with his Uncle Joe and his grandpa, a New York native, who are both huge fans!
