    The Need

Corrie Burdick is a mom, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend, teacher and artist. She has lived her life to the fullest despite facing health challenges for over 30 years. At 21, she was a pedestrian struck by a drunk driver. After many years of issues stemming from the accident, her leg was amputated in 2014. Unfortunately, insurance only covers half the cost of a prosthetic, and she is still paying on a leg she couldn't use. At 36, her struggle with cancer began.

She battled breast cancer, then ovarian cancer in 2020, and now her cancer is back aggressively, forcing her to do chemo again. She will likely be out for the remainder of the school year with FMLA leave as unpaid. Both of her daughters are Type 1 diabetics with, her youngest daughter, Luci, a junior at SUNY Brockport and her oldest daughter will graduate with her master’s degree in social work this May. It is imperative that Corrie maintain her health benefits not only for her own ongoing cancer treatment, but for her daughters to remain covered on her insurance.

Funds from this campaign will help her to keep her health benefits and enable her to continue paying for her own treatment and living expenses with her intent to return to her job as an art teacher at Washington West Elementary and to the Ohana family there.
