    The Need

Jaide Alexyn is 22 years old. She was born and raised in Corfu, New York. Jaide moved last summer 2020 to New Orleans to start her life after graduating from the University at Buffalo with a Bachelor's degree in Community Mental Health. Unfortunately, she started feeling sick in January, but dismissed symptoms (bruising, headaches, loss of vision, sleeping beyond the normal etc.,). She assumed it was from her “busy” lifestyle until she collapsed on January 27, 2021 and was sent to the hospital. At first she thought she was having a stroke as she was unable to speak, and lost complete sense of reality. After blood work she was diagnosed with TTP- Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura. TTP is a very rare blood disorder and needs to be treated quickly as it is a life threatening emergency. With being as rare as it is, there is no explanation to what caused it, what will trigger future episodes, and many other questions. She has spent several weeks in the hospital receiving blood and plasma transfusions, and received a chemo-like drug for 4 weeks, as it was shown in other cases to reduce the chances of relapses, although every case is different. She continues to get blood work done every two weeks and takes medications daily. Being diagnosed with TTP has been a difficult life altering experience, but she is grateful to be here and alive. Please consider a shirt purchase or donation to Jaide's online fundraiser.
