    The Need

On April 23rd, 2016 a large tumor was discovered on Sawyer's brain. She was rushed to UVA Medical Center where she had an operation and the tumor was successfully removed! After removing the tumor, Sawyer was diagnosed with stage 3 Anaplastic Ependymoma. This type of brain cancer is so rare that Sawyer was immediately accepted into St Jude's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She spent her summer at St Jude, with her mom, where she had proton radiation treatments in hopes of beating cancer. Sawyer has been bravely battling for years, and as a single mom, Jamie has faced incredible financial burdens. Sawyer has had 4 brain surgeries, 2 different rounds of radiation, 12 weeks of chemo, and several different trials at hospitals around the country over those years. Sawyer’s current prognosis is poor, and all of her options have been exhausted. Her mother and siblings continue to keep the faith, and do everything possible to keep her comfortable as she is on hospice at home. Now more than ever, Sawyer and her family need our help and encouragement.
