3-year-old Sophie VanKoughnet was born with a rare genetic condition called Pallister-Hall Syndrome. Already she has undergone 10 surgeries and faces a lifetime of medical challenges. Sophie’s parents often have difficulty keeping jobs while they devote their time to Sophie and her treatments. Additionally, their insurance has not always covered all of Sophie’s needs. For these reasons, along with frequent copays for what insurance will cover, their medical debt has climbed to a crippling amount. Sophie continues to make progress, and is learning to chew and swallow food, as well as communicate through sign language. Her mom notes how happy and resilient she is in the face of her difficult diagnosis, and how Sophie’s attitude encourages her to think positively. The family has used their life savings to pay for her care, and now need our help.
