    The Need

3-year-old Journey Joy Baker has a heart condition known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, She was diagnosed while her mother was pregnant. In this condition, the left side of the heart doesn’t form correctly, and the heart can’t pump blood to the body properly. A child with HLHS needs several different types of surgery starting soon after birth to try to correct this. These kids need to be born in a facility where cardiovascular surgical services are available immediately. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Buffalo. Journey was born in Rochester and had her initial surgeries there. More recently, Journey had final stage surgery in Pittsburgh that ultimately failed and had to be reversed. She was evaluated in for Heart Transplant, but at this time is not a candidate. She will require several trips back and forth to Pittsburgh for her cardiac condition and other health issues. Journey lives with her mother and younger sister. The traveling alone can be very difficult with another child, but with extended, unexpected stays away from home, it has been very taxing. We want to help! Please consider a shirt purchase, and follow her story at her Facebook page.
