    The Need

In 2012, the Gabel family from North Tonawanda welcomed their fourth daughter, Piper Hope. They quickly found out that Piper has a rare bone disease called Kniest Dysplasia. This is a disorder of bone growth characterized by short stature (dwarfism) with other skeletal abnormalities.  Because her disease is so rare, her parents were advised by local doctors to take her to Nemours DuPont Hospital for Children in the state of Delaware. Piper has a weak immune system so a family friend contacted Wings Flights of Hope to transport her.  At 6 months old, Piper took her first trip with Pilot and founder of Wings, Joseph DeMarco Sr.  Piper has been flying with Wings for the past 6 years to all of her out of town appointments and Pilot Joe is her friend and hero. In honor of Dwarfism Awareness Month, we want to say thank you to Wings Flights of Hope for helping Piper get the medical attention that she needs and for supporting local families. Thank you Wings and Pilot Joe!
