    The Need

In 2014, the first day of Louie's son's Pre-K, he remembers not being able to walk into school with him, as he felt dizzy and short of breath. It wasn’t until several doctor appointments and multiple ablations of his heart that he was sent to Boston Brigham and Women’s hospital. On Christmas Eve 2014 they discovered, after taking a biopsy of his heart, he had myocarditis. From then on, the symptoms persisted and gradually became worse. He was sent back to Boston to have a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted. This  allowed him to live the next 6 years with minimal limitations. In 2020, Louie fulfilled his dream, and was able to go on vacation with his family and friends. It was then he started to notice the shortness of breath, and the need to take several breaks during the slightest exertion. After several trips to the ER, and other failed attempts to fix this issue, he was sent to Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital where he learned how sick he truly was. He was suffering from biventricular heart failure. During his two month stay at Strong, he had two different right ventricle assist devices implanted which were supporting his right ventricle, and also a left ventricle assist device. They were able to remove the right ventricle assist device in order for Louie to go home to his family. Louie is now home with a permanent left ventricle device implanted, and he has an IV pump with a drug which is helping his right ventricle failure. These are both temporary solutions, and are a bridge to a heart transplant. We want to help! Please consider a shirt purchase or donation to Louie's online fundraiser.
