    The Need

The Joseph M. Overfield Memorial Baseball, Softball, Soccer and Mentoring Program is being created at the Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Sports Pavilion—the former War Memorial Stadium—for the former historian of the Buffalo Bisons baseball club who authored the book, The 100 Seasons of Buffalo Baseball in 1985 and threw out a first pitch before a Bisons game that game at the old stadium to commemorate the book’s release. His son, Joseph H. Overfield, is the editor of a revision and update of his dad’s book, The Seasons of Buffalo Baseball 1857-2020, which will be released in mid-November. A portion of the book’s sales and proceeds from the sale of these shirts will go to The Joseph M. Overfield Memorial Baseball, Softball, Soccer and Mentoring Program. The program will be managed by the Willie Hutch Jones Education and Sports program, founded by Buffalo native and former NBA player Willie Hutch Jones. They provide instruction in fundamental life and social skills development, sports skills development as well academic support. For more information, http://whjsc.org. It will also be managed by The Omega Mentoring Program, founded by Cedric Holloway, and committed to inspiring and motivating at-risk youth towards college through one-on-one mentoring. It provides these youth leadership formulated to deal with the myriad of problems with an emphasis on self-love, self-knowledge, self-development, and spiritual development.
