    The Need

Eddie was born in April of 2015 with multiple Congenital Heart Defects. In his first hours of life he had his first cardiac catheterization, where he was officially diagnosed with Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect and Major Aortopulmonary Collateral Arteries (MAPCA’s). He had little to no pulmonary arteries. Eddie underwent a total of 5 open heart surgeries before he was even in preschool. These surgeries, and his condition, resulted in many illnesses and side effects including being prone to infection and brittle bones that break easily. August of 2019 Eddie battled JET (irregular heart rhythms) and a form of the flu which required even more ER visits and procedures. Eddie’s diagnosis means he must be cautious of infection, so he largely remains at home. On May 6th, Eddie took his first plane ride out to California for a cardiac catheterization and lung perfusion, where it was determined he was eligible for his next major open heart surgery scheduled for August of this year. Despite everything Eddie is such a happy kid. He loves school. His family is cautiously optimistic for a successful surgery, knowing that this surgery is going to be very long and extensive. We want to help!
