On December 12, 2020 David Holscher was diagnosed with COVID-19. On December 19th he was admitted to the hospital and put on high flow oxygen as he experienced multiple symptoms of the virus. Unfortunately, on the night of Christmas Eve he was told he had developed a large blood clot in his leg and required emergency surgery. Following the procedure, David was placed in the ICU on a ventilator and remained in the hospital for a month. He was discharged home, and hoped that his leg would continue to heal. By March of 2021 David was hospitalized again for an arterial bleed in his leg, which ended up rupturing and compromising the circulation. David’s right leg did not recover, and it required amputation above his knee on March 19th. David found himself in the hospital again for another month after contracting a bad infection following the amputation. Eventually, David was discharged to rehab to begin the process of receiving a prosthetic and learning how to walk again. It will be a long and difficult process to recover, but he notes that he can’t thank his team of doctors enough for saving his life and being so kind and supporting his family during his multiple procedures.
