    The Need

From Garnet himself: "After a weekend of mountain biking and camping with my fiance, Autumn, I came home to a headache after work. Autumn and I had talked about our upcoming marriage set for a weekend trip to the Catskills. We planned to hike a mountain at 4AM, exchange vows, and watch the sunrise together. Unfortunately, I awoke in the hospital before we were to tie the knot. I had declined health insurance from my workplace weeks prior to hospitalization with the understanding I would be covered under Autumn's insurance after marriage. During my stay, I had shunts installed in my skull to drain fluid from my brain that had damaged some of my visual centers. I had a craniotomy during which the surgeons removed a tumor that had mashed my pineal gland. The Doctors at Roswell Park, our local cancer center, later told me it was an aggressive, malignant cancer. Despite these findings, I was in good spirits. I felt I had cheated death. Afterall, the ER Docs told Autumn that I would die when I arrived. I still wake up each morning ecstatic to be alive. I’ve looked forward to fatherhood for the past several years. The chemo and radiation will likely render me impotent for quite a time and we’ve taken steps to preserve our chances with the local fertility clinic. Thus far, money raised in a GoFundMe plus charity care from the hospital will significantly help with our incurred cost - it clocked in around 450 grand when all was said and done. Further fundraising will help me offset upcoming costs related to my diagnosis. Unfortunately this cancer is rare enough that none of my Doctors have experience with it. I’m in the process of seeking care from the Cleveland Clinic. In the meantime, I’ll stay positive and enjoy the second chance I have at helping our community as a Physical Therapist, loving Autumn, my family, and friends, and attacking my challenges with curiosity and confidence!" We want to help Garnet! Please consider a shirt purchase, or donation to his online fundraiser. You can also learn more over at our blog.
