    The Need

From Scarlett's mom, Mandy Kiera: "On February 11th, Jason and I found out that our 15-month-old daughter Scarlett Rae had cancer.  A team from Oishei Children's Hospital and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center was able to determine that what started as a small lump on her forearm and quickly grew, is an aggressive form of cancer called alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma stage 3.

"Scarlett has undergone batteries of tests, biopsies, and scans. She had a port installed in her chest and began chemotherapy on March 2. In June, Scarlett's cancer had replaced and grew back to the size we found it in January.  Scarlett is now on a very high dose of chemotherapy which is 21 weeks long and requires us to stay in the hospital at Oishei Children's for 3 days. Then we usually are back in the hospital on day 10 after chemo because her counts drop to a dangerously low number so we then have to be admitted into the hospital for at least 5 days. Scarlett just finished  33 days M-F of radiation, during that time she had to be put under anesthesia each day.

"Scarlett turned 2 years old on October 17th, she is the happiest little girl and is always smiling and will brighten up any room she walks into with her sweet little dimples. #ScarlettStrong 💛💛"
