    The Need

Matthew Arendt was an avid runner and outdoorsman. On January 2nd, 2020, Matt went for a run in Chestnut Ridge Park, something he did frequently. Unfortunately, this run was cut short. Matt felt a sudden headache and collapsed on the trail where he was eventually found by another runner. After Matt reached the hospital it was determined that he had a previously undiagnosed brain aneurysm that ruptured during his jog. After emergency neurosurgery, Matt began to recover, faster than anyone the doctors had ever seen before with such a major hemorrhage. Within a week, Matt was walking, talking, and climbing stairs in the hospital. He was even discharged from the hospital early due to his miraculous recovery. After two beautiful days at home with his family, Matt’s wife heard a gasp from the couch shortly after he fell asleep. Matt’s aneurysm had ruptured again and he was in respiratory arrest. Tragically, he wouldn’t recover from this stroke. Matt passed away in the hospital on January 18th surrounded by his family and those that he loved. He was only 36 years old. He leaves behind Kate, his wife of 13 years, and his 9-year-old daughter Maddie. Matt was an electrician with IBEW Local #41 and a lover of music, IPA beers, and adventure. His family will deeply miss him and the constant stream of laughter. His daughter Maddie may have only had Matt for 9 years, but the love and care that he showed her is more than many children receive in a lifetime. Matt’s only wish was to provide and take care of his beautiful family. Donations will go directly to Kate and Maddie, his beloved wife and daughter, to help them recover and rebuild their lives after this devastating loss. Please consider a shirt purchase or donation to their online fundraiser.
