    The Need

On December 23, Phil and Kim Vaillancourt, already parents of two, adopted three girls. Four days later, they were given unexpected, heartbreaking news: Kim had two brain tumors, one on the frontal left lobe, and one on the stem of the brain. If she was not pregnant they would have operated immediately, because of the location on the brain stem. But because of the baby, the doctor wanted to put her on steroids for 24 hours before operating. The course of treatment to prevent the cancer from coming back for most patients is radiation and chemotherapy. But Kim isn't most patients, because her unborn child is her first priority. "The baby gave me a chance. I've got to give baby a chance," said Kim. She has elected not to begin treatment against this aggresive cancer until after the baby has been born. "If it wasn't for the baby, she probably would've never gone to the hospital," Phil said. "With her severe headache and nausea and she would've laid in bed thinking it was the flu, and she would've possibly not been here today. We definitely feel that God put that baby in her for a reason; pretty much to save her life." You can learn more at the WGRZ website. Please consider a shirt purchase, or a donation through their online fundraiser to assist the Vaillancourts.
